Water Heater Diagnosis, Maintenance, Repair, and Replacement

A basement utility room with water heater and HVAC system.

Water Heater Inspections, Maintenance, and Replacement

 Water Heater Maintenance:

  • Annual Inspection: A professional should inspect the client's water heater annually to check for leaks, corrosion, and other issues.

  • Flushing the Tank: Flushing a water heater removes most sediment buildup that can reduce efficiency and damage the tank.

  • Testing the Pressure Relief Valve: This water heater pressure relief valve prevents pressure buildup in the tank, and it needs to be tested regularly.

  • Insulating the Tank and Pipes: Insulation helps prevent heat loss and reduces energy consumption. (Our company does not handle insulation of water heaters or pipes.)

  • Checking the Anode Rod: The anode rod protects the water heater from corrosion; it should be inspected and replaced as needed.

  • Adjusting Temperature Settings: Lowering the water temperature for the water heater can save energy and reduce mineral buildup.

  • Checking Electrical Connections (for electric water heaters): Ensure connections are secure and free of corrosion.

  • Inspecting Gas Lines and Burner (for gas water heaters): Check for leaks and ensure the burner is clean and functioning properly.

Water Heater Inspections, Maintenance, and Replacement

  • Fixing Leaks: Addressing water heater leaks promptly is crucial to prevent water damage and ensure efficient operation.

  • Replacing Parts: This may include replacing the anode rod, pressure relief valve, or other components.

  • Addressing Sediment Buildup: If sediment buildup is severe, professional cleaning or repair may be necessary.

  • Repairing Corrosion: Corrosion can weaken the water heater, and professional repair or replacement may be needed.

  • Replacing the Water Heater: In some cases, repairing the water heater may not be feasible, and replacement will be a must.

  • We do not do any electrical work related to water heaters beyond a direct replacement/like for a like wiring swap. We do not do any advanced electrical diagnosis. If a water heater related issue is diagnosed by one of our technicians to be an electrical related issue. Our time spent during the dispatch, diagnosis, consumables, and labor will be billed to the customer.
