Well Water Supply Components (Maintenance)

Annual Maintenance Recommendations

  • Pressure Tank Maintenance: Check for leaks, ensure proper pressure, and inspect for corrosion. Professional inspection is recommended every 2-3 years.

  • Filter Maintenance: If you have a whole house filtration unit. Replace or clean filters as needed, depending on the filter type and water quality.

Well Water Supply Components (Common Issues)

  • Low or No Water Pressure: This is a frequent issue, often caused by clogged pipes, filters, water well pressure switch, well water pressure tank, or a failing pump. It can also be possibly related to a poorly sized pump for your water needs. The pressure switch and well pressure tank need to be inspected for proper function or possible failure.

  • Hard Water: Hard water, characterized by high levels of calcium and magnesium, can cause scaling on appliances, faucets, and pipes, leading to reduced water flow and increased maintenance costs.

  • Contaminants: Wells can be contaminated with bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, and other pollutants. Regular water testing and treatment systems are essential for safe drinking water.

  • Poor Water Quality: This includes issues like bad taste, discolored water, or the presence of sediment. These can be caused by various factors, including natural contaminants or human activities.

  • Other Problems: Other well water problems include leaks, corrosion, scale buildup in pipes.

Well Water Supply Components (Replacement)

  • Reduced Water Pressure: A well pressure switch depending on the model should maintain a pressure of 30-60 PSI. If the pressure gauge shows lower than this, it could be a sign of a switch or pressure gauge.

  • Strange Noises: Grinding, rattling, or hissing sounds from a well component could indicate mechanical issues.

  • Increased Energy Bills: An aging well component might need to work harder to produce the same amount of water, leading to higher energy consumption.

  • Sediment in Water: Murky water with sediment can be a sign of problems with the pressure tank.

  • Frequent Cycling On and Off: If the pressure switch cycles on and off frequently, it might be struggling to maintain pressure in the tank.

  • Water Leaks at the Pressure Tank: Leaks around the pressure tank can indicate problems with the tank itself.

  • Visible Corrosion on the Exterior of the Tank: Rust or corrosion on the outside of the pressure tank can be a sign of age and potential problems.

  • Spitting Faucets: Air pockets or other issues can cause faucets to spit air.

Factors to consider when deciding to replace:

  • Age of the Pump: If your pump is approaching or has surpassed its expected lifespan (12-20 years), it's a good time to start considering a replacement. We are not a below ground well service company.

  • Cost of Replacement vs. Repairs: Consider the cost of replacing the pump versus the cost of ongoing repairs. In some cases, replacement can be more cost-effective in the long run.

  • Water Quality Issues: If you've experienced significant changes in water quality (taste, odor, sediment, etc.), it's important to investigate the cause, and replacement may be necessary.

  • Well Water Pressure: If you're experiencing low or fluctuating water pressure, it could be a sign of a failing pressure switch, pressure tank, or filtration system.

Well Water Supply Components (Electrical Work and Drilling)

Here at Unmatched Plumbing Company, we do absolutely zero underground or below ground well service work (The pump, and water supply line in the well casing), nor do we do anything related to any portion of the electrical systems tied to a plumbing system. We install well components located above ground (pressure switch, pressure tank or bladder, whole house filtration systems), and if the electrical wiring or plug is a direct transfer or replacement i.e. water heater, pumps, garbage disposals, pressure switch then yes, we do that. If a job requires any specialty electrical diagnosis, rework or changes to the electrical outlet location, wiring, or electrical capacity, the client should have a licensed electrician involved.  If well system issue is diagnosed by one of our technicians to be an electrical related issue and not a plumbing or above ground well related problem. Our time spent during the dispatch, diagnosis, consumables, and labor will be billed to the customer.

We do not drill wells or maintain the well cavity and walls themselves. We do not replace or update well motor pumps (below ground). We recommend contacting a well specialist company for all of your below ground well needs.
