Well Water Supply Components (Maintenance)

Annual Maintenance Recommendations

  • Pump Maintenance: Check the pump's pressure switch, pressure gauge, and electrical connections. Listen for unusual noises. Professional inspection is recommended every 2-3 years.
  • Pressure Tank Maintenance: Check for leaks, ensure proper pressure, and inspect for corrosion. Professional inspection is recommended every 2-3 years.
  • Filter Maintenance: If you have a whole house filtration unit. Replace or clean filters as needed, depending on the filter type and water quality.
  • Water Softener Maintenance:.If you have a water softener, regularly add salt to the brine tank, check the resin bed, and inspect for leaks.

Well Water Supply Components (Common Issues)

  • Low Water Pressure: This is a frequent issue, often caused by clogged pipes, filters, or a failing pump. It can also be related to a poorly sized pump for your water needs or problems with the pressure tank.
  • Failing Well Pump: A failing pump can lead to low water pressure or even no water at all. Other signs include increased electricity bills, frequent pump cycling, and the presence of air in the water.
  • Hard Water: Hard water, characterized by high levels of calcium and magnesium, can cause scaling on appliances, faucets, and pipes, leading to reduced water flow and increased maintenance costs.
  • Contaminants: Wells can be contaminated with bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, and other pollutants. Regular water testing and treatment systems are essential for safe drinking water.
  • Poor Water Quality: This includes issues like bad taste, discolored water, or the presence of sediment. These can be caused by various factors, including natural contaminants or human activities.
  • Other Problems: Other well water problems include leaks, corrosion, scale buildup in pipes, and issues with the well's casing or screen.

Well Water Supply Components (Replacement)

  • Reduced Water Pressure: A well pump should maintain a pressure of 40-60 PSI. If the pressure gauge shows lower than this, it could be a sign of a failing pump.
  • Strange Noises: Grinding, rattling, or hissing sounds from the pump could indicate mechanical issues.
  • Increased Energy Bills: An aging pump might need to work harder to produce the same amount of water, leading to higher energy consumption.
  • Foul Odor or Taste: Changes in water quality, including odors and tastes, can indicate issues with the well or pump.
  • Sediment in Water: Murky water with sediment can be a sign of problems with the well or pump, or even the pressure tank.
  • Frequent Cycling On and Off: If the pump cycles on and off frequently, it might be struggling to maintain pressure in the tank.
  • Water Leaks at the Pressure Tank: Leaks around the pressure tank can indicate problems with the tank itself.
  • Visible Corrosion on the Exterior of the Tank: Rust or corrosion on the outside of the pressure tank can be a sign of age and potential problems.
  • Spitting Faucets: Air pockets or other issues can cause faucets to spit air.

Factors to consider when deciding to replace:

  • Age of the Pump: If your pump is approaching or has surpassed its expected lifespan (10-25 years), it's a good time to start considering a replacement.
  • Frequency of Repairs: If you're constantly having to repair your well pump, it might be time to replace it instead of continuing to fix minor issues.
  • Cost of Replacement vs. Repairs: Consider the cost of replacing the pump versus the cost of ongoing repairs. In some cases, replacement can be more cost-effective in the long run.
  • Water Quality Issues: If you've experienced significant changes in water quality (taste, odor, sediment, etc.), it's important to investigate the cause, and replacement may be necessary.
  • Well Water Pressure: If you're experiencing low or fluctuating water pressure, it could be a sign of a failing pump.
  • Strange Noises: Any unusual noises coming from the pump should be investigated by a professional well service provider.

Well Water Supply Components (Electrical Work and Drilling)

Here at Unmatched Plumbing Company, we do absolutely zero additions, changing locations, or updating any portion of the electrical systems tied to a plumbing system . We install plumbing and plumbing related systems and items and if the electrical is a direct transfer i.e. water heater, pumps, garbage disposals, then yes, we do that.  If a job requires any rework or changes to the electrical outlet location or electrical capacity , the client should have an electrician involved.

We do not drill wells or maintain the well cavity and walls themselves. We also do not clean the well cavities or walls.
